KVGM “The Last Wave” (1/12/20)

Do you hear that sound? Can you feel it? The cool ocean breeze in your hair, the salt on your tongue. It’s the smooth crash of the Last Wave on KVGM with your host, Hammock, bringing you thirty minutes of the best video game jams(z) from all your favorite composers and consoles, each and every week from our beachside studio on sunny Aqua City Island. Sit back, relax, and get ready to catch…the Last Wave.

As we sit here at the pinnacle of the Last Wave’s existence, drinking Arnold Palmtrees with none other than Craig Stadler, we look out across the console landscape, to the Saturns and Xboxes and Gamecubes…each a star in their own right, full of the kind of jams that make it all worth while. What’s next for us? Craig and Hammock, that is. Maybe we’ll just hang out in this moment and enjoy what we have and all that we’ve accomplished. But we must also look to the future, to all the waves that will continue to crash…smoothly, of course. We’re not trying to surf out here. Life is like a lazy river…just flow with it.

Welcome to the next decade, the year 2020. The Last Wave is back and better than ever…we’ve got a new microphone set-up in the studio (let us know how it sounds because I can’t tell the difference). And of course, we’ve got plenty of the smoothest jams to bring in the new year, which is the most important thing. My resolution? More smooth jams. Easy. And to increase my iron intake.

A lot of people ask me “Hammock, why so smooth?” and I always go back to the day I had brunch with Carlos Santana in Aqua City and we discussed his 1999 hit, “Smooth” featuring Rob Thomas. And I asked Santana the same question – I said, “Carlos, why Smooth?” and he said it’s just like the ocean under the moon. And that resonated with me. And from that day forward, I vowed to only play the smoothest video game jams on the planet. Not only for Carlos and Rob…but for all the future listeners out there. So thanks for listening.

We’ve added a DONATE button to the website for those looking to go the extra mile in supporting the Last Wave and showing your appreciation for the hard work the KVGM staff put into producing the show each week. Any amount is greatly appreciated but there no pressure or expectations. Also, some listeners have been using the request line in order to reach out, which is great, but you can now e-mail the Last Wave at kvgmradio@gmail.com – if you questions, comments, or just want to say hi, the gmail is there for you.

December is upon us, like a wolf at the door…but a chill wolf who just wants to be cuddled by a warm fire. We’re still cranking out the smooth summer-y jams as the holiday fever begins to sweep the nation, including, of course, mahjong, golf, NBA jams and a track made especially for the horse lover in all of us. If you’ve got a holiday jam, send it to us via the 24/7 request line and we’ll play it on the show. Otherwise, it’s business as usual here at the Last Wave.

With Thanksgiving approaching, let’s give thanks to some wonderful composers and the smooth jams they produced for us to enjoy. I’m talking about Poland’s greatest son, Zbigniew Siatecki, Hikoshi Hashimoto, Hideki Naganuma, and the entire SNK Sound Team. Let’s give thanks to flight simulators and horse racing betting systems, to trying again next year, and perhaps, the second biggest thanks: GOLF GAMES! The first? YOU! The listener. Thank you for the continued support of the Last Wave on KVGM! And to those who celebrate, happy Thanksgiving.

Enter the Last Wave Year Two, where the jams just keep gettin’ smoother…if that’s even possible at this point, I don’t know. But we’ve got incredible hot air balloon action, Alaska golf courses, high rolling casinos, stock market simulators, and Richard Jacques laying it down for the Sega Dreamcast. Plus we take back-to-back strolls down Itadaki Street, where the slimes are too cool for school.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LAST WAVE! This week, we celebrate 365 days of broadcasting on the KVGM airwaves and re-visit some favorite soundtracks from the past year. Thank you all for the continued support throughout 2018-2019, and we hope to be celebrating a second anniversary in 2020…if the planet isn’t dead yet…but let’s hope the planet doesn’t die in 2020 and that we can continue jamming out to some of the smoothest video game tracks planet Earth has to offer.
