KVGM “The Last Wave” (12/13/20)

Do you hear that sound? Can you feel it? The cool ocean breeze in your hair, the salt on your tongue. It’s the smooth crash of the Last Wave on KVGM with your host, Hammock, bringing you thirty minutes of the best video game jams(z) from all your favorite composers and consoles, each and every week from our beachside studio in sunny Aqua City Island. Sit back, relax, and get ready to catch…the Last Wave.

What could get more Last Wave-y than jet skis and Akira Sato? Throw in a couple murder mysteries, a visual novel about naked mermaid girls, and a whacky GBC track…and you got the perfect recipe for jam(s). The request line is still ringing off the hook but keep them coming and we’ll keep playing them on the show. Also, look for a special announcement in the new year…2021. The future.

Enter December, the temperature’s dropping (unless you’re on Aqua City Island, where the temperature doesn’t budge), and things aren’t exactly the way you may have anticipated a year ago…but you know what? Jams. Jams will keep things warm, bring the optimism, the encouragement needed to sustain the winter…and of course, what better way to jam out then with mahjong and baseball and billiards…and yes, dirty dirty visual novels.

It’s like an all-you-can-listen buffet of smooth video game music, featuring favorite consoles like the Nintendo 64 and Amiga, a lesser favorites like the GameCube and Sega CD, as well as golf, Sonic the Hedgehog, and colorful logic. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LAST WAVE! This week, we celebrate Year 2 of broadcasting on the KVGM airwaves and re-visit some favorite soundtracks from the past year. Thank you all for the continued support throughout 2019-2020, and we hope to be celebrating a third anniversary in 2021. Last year, I said let’s hope the planet doesn’t die in 2020…and while it technically is still alive, 2020 hit it hard. 2021 can only be an improvement…right? RIGHT?!

Another week, another half hour of jams. Lots of unknowns but the unknowns in life make things a little more interesting, less predictable. We’ve got a Perfect Stranger spinoff theme, walking pachi balls, TOEIC training guides, and even snickerdoodle cookie cakes, yum yum yum. If you keep listenin’, we’ll keep jammin’ out the jams!

Streets of Rage 4 came out last week, which is the first game I’ve been super excited about playing since Zelda: Breath of the Wild. My wife and I have been beatin’ thugs up and corrupt cops…and I love the fact that you can customize your food. My wife always seems to hit me with her special “on accident” and gulps down food at FULL HEALTH! Good grief…but the soundtrack has some jams that will definitely be making an appearance on the Last Wave, get ready.

What’s it like to fly for fun? I don’t know – ask a bird! But seriously, we venture from 18 holes to the ultimate sandtrap of the Sahara desert, pondering what high school would be like in a world full of monsters, and the emotions you get from High Scores and Staff Rolls. And of course, the Last Wave wouldn’t be complete without at least ONE naughty game soundtrack. Bonus content: we reveal Hammock’s dad’s top three video games of ALL TIME. Check it out.
