Enjoy the jams this week, there’s plenty to get your day going in the right direction. And if you want extra Hammock action, check out Pixelated Audio‘s latest episode, featuring music from the Playstation game, Kaze no Notam. We’ve featured a track from the game on the Last Wave but we take a deeper dive, exploring all that hot air balloon simulation has to offer. Thanks to Bryan and Gene for having me on, it was a lot of fun and the soundtrack is very chill and unique.

Speaking of the anthropomorphic craze in kids’ cartoons in the ’80s/’90s, how many listeners remember Battle Beasts? I collected them as a young Hammock, as well as M.U.S.C.L.E. in their plastic garbage bins. Of course, my parents sold them in a garage sale when I was off in College World and I will never forgive them for as long as I live (kidding). Biker Mice From Mars wasn’t something I was into but I did enjoy the Cowboys of Moo Mesa.

Let’s throw a question out there to the listener: if you could name your dream pasture, what would you name it? Mellow Meadows is where all the chill horses hang out on Aqua City Island, eating hay and running in the fields. When I was a little Hammock, I rode a lot of horses…as a bigger Hammock, I don’t ride as many but still enjoy it when given the opportunity. But I do not enjoy taxi cab rides, nor do I want to simulate being a taxi cab driver. BUT THAT’S WHAT THE JAMS ARE FOR!

Someone once asked me, “Hey Hammock, what’s makes a jam a smooth jam?” and I had to think about it for a minute. I had to consider all the possibilities. Because it’s true…a jam can be a jam but still not be a smooth jam. I think it’s the right balance of a good beat, some kind of brass instrument, the guitar shouldn’t be overwhelming, and last but not be least, you should not feel anxious listening to it. Plenty of video game music out there makes me feel anxious but when you pop in a smooth jam, all that anxiety melts away and you’re left with something so special…it’s worth of the Last Wave.

Another week, another half-hour dose of SMOOTH~! — this time, we visit Fox Junction for a completely chill 90’s-esque jam, we play non-golf golf tracks, hit up that beautiful Bandai WonderSwan, and passive-aggressively explain to our virtual roommate that pantry space is limited. And remember,  love is a beach…sometimes…

This week, we hit rock bottom…briefly…but maybe we’ll score those free buffet passes. From the sad casino to the jammin’ airport, we bounce around the world of smooth VGM with some great tracks. Dreaming in amber color has never looked so good…oh, and by the way, my best friend Kody the bottlenose dolphin is running a special all week long at Reef Daddy’s. Endless mozzarella sticks only $4.99. Tell ’em Hammock sent you!

Butlers with magic talking guns? I mean, come on, it’s such a great concept…not only are you a butler with a gun…you’re a butler with a magic gun. That speaks to you. Wow. Hollywood has seemingly run out of fresh ideas but geez, an adaptation of Bullet Butlers on the big screen is guaranteed $$$$$. Casting Gerard Butler seems obvious. Look, big-time Hollywood producers out there who listen to the show,  hit us up…kvgmradio@gmail.com…let’s make this happen and get filthy rich together!

As we sit here at the pinnacle of the Last Wave’s existence, drinking Arnold Palmtrees with none other than Craig Stadler, we look out across the console landscape, to the Saturns and Xboxes and Gamecubes…each a star in their own right, full of the kind of jams that make it all worth while. What’s next for us? Craig and Hammock, that is. Maybe we’ll just hang out in this moment and enjoy what we have and all that we’ve accomplished. But we must also look to the future, to all the waves that will continue to crash…smoothly, of course. We’re not trying to surf out here. Life is like a lazy river…just flow with it.

Welcome to the next decade, the year 2020. The Last Wave is back and better than ever…we’ve got a new microphone set-up in the studio (let us know how it sounds because I can’t tell the difference). And of course, we’ve got plenty of the smoothest jams to bring in the new year, which is the most important thing. My resolution? More smooth jams. Easy. And to increase my iron intake.
