KVGM “The Last Wave” (2/14/21)

Do you hear that sound? Can you feel it? The cool ocean breeze in your hair, the salt on your tongue. It’s the smooth crash of the Last Wave on KVGM with your host, Hammock, bringing you thirty minutes of the best video game jams(z) from all your favorite composers and consoles, each and every week from our beachside studio in sunny Aqua City Island. Sit back, relax, and get ready to catch…the Last Wave.

Love is in the air in the form of only the smoothest jams, and we celebrate the only way the Last Wave can – with tracks from convenient store simulators, the PC-98, detective games, and, of course, a little futbol action. Plus a special request to fulfill…I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day. I mean, I can…but…

It’s a particularly dance yet emotional episode this week, as we turn the concept of solitaire on it’s head, hit the slopes on Ibiza, CRUSH X!!!!, and get some pro tips from the baddest bad boy in the chess world. We take a romantic stroll through the park, only to pick up the broken pieces of our heart…sad face. If you like the show, please consider rating and reviewing it on iTunes if you haven’t already. It helps…I think?

January is over but the smooth jams of 2021 are just beginning. We have not one but two tracks from Yuki Nakauama, as well as a Snake Davis guest appearance, historical military simulations, another dose of listener-requested Pokémon, and of course, an unknown composer. Wouldn’t be the Last Wave without a little bit of mystery. Thanks again to everyone who supported the show this month through the new Patreon. Next month, love is in the air…and as always, the very smoothest in video game music.

The sun is shining down on this week’s show because…well, a lot of things but because we’ve got MUSE in the house bringing the emotions, bongos, racing, volleyball, soccer…even computer hacking simulation. And of course, we keep delivering the special requests. And if you’re a member of the Patreon, the inaugural “The Last Wave” After Dark hit last Friday…so I hope you like remakes…and the number 7…and jukeboxes. And more importantly, smooth jams.

A pretty standard show this week (and by standard, I mean extra smooth as usual). AOL murder mysteries, 102 ways to murder God, the Legend of Zelda in four colors, and BASEBALL! Come celebrate with us, and be sure to check out Rhythm & Pixels this week as I join Rob and Pernell to talk about video game music that sounds like buddy cop movies. You know what I’m talking about. Some real fine cheese for sure.

This week,  Yu-Gi-Oh! is back in a big way, sudoku is back in an even bigger way, and we cover not one, not two, not three, but FIVE Nintendo consoles. And we prove that sometimes unused songs are not unused in our hearts. To everyone who became a member of Patreon, thank you so so so much for your support of the show! And to anyone who is on the fence? Well…that’s okay. The fence gives you a good vantage point.

The future is now. 2021. Welcome and good riddance last year. In addition to a plethora of smooth jams, including the obligatory Akira Sato track, not one but TWO SNES jams, and a Team X-Fade production, the Last Wave is now on Patreon. That’s right, your dreams have come true. There’s only one tier but it’s cheap (and lucky) and gets you access to an exclusive show, “The Last Wave” After Dark. This monthly EXCLUSIVE show will feature deep dives into soundtracks, bring in special guests to talk about their favorite soundtracks, themed episodes, anything and everything is possible…but you need to subscribe to find out! Let’s bring this dumpster fire of a year to a close with a hot selection of some of the very smoothest video game music in existence. We hit the Paradise Killer soundtrack not once…but twice. We also explore the relationship between three-eyed demon girls and log cabins, use the power of our voice to explore dozens of recipes, play a little mahjong on the go, even a little Yu-Gi-Oh! Thanks for making 2020 as bearable as possible by continuing to support the show. And stayed tuned next month as the Last Wave is about to bring something extra to those who want it…

On this week’s show, MANYO continues to be the man, yo. Yusuke Beppu and Manabu Namiki return in style, things get sexy on the tennis court, toy cars for cool tots, even a very Lifetime Original ending track from a medical simulator. Plus another request…it’s a good time to subscribe to the Last Wave, if you haven’t by now…which you probably have because…well, just because.

What could get more Last Wave-y than jet skis and Akira Sato? Throw in a couple murder mysteries, a visual novel about naked mermaid girls, and a whacky GBC track…and you got the perfect recipe for jam(s). The request line is still ringing off the hook but keep them coming and we’ll keep playing them on the show. Also, look for a special announcement in the new year…2021. The future.
