KVGM “The Last Wave” (5/7/23)

Do you hear that sound? Can you feel it? The cool ocean breeze in your hair, the salt on your tongue. It’s the smooth crash of the Last Wave on KVGM with your host, Hammock, bringing you thirty minutes of the best video game jams(z) from all your favorite composers and consoles, each and every week from our beachside studio in sunny Aqua City Island. Sit back, relax, and get ready to catch…the Last Wave.

First and foremost, big shoutout to Rob from the Rhythm & Pixels podcast for setting up the new 24/7 KVGM radio stream on YouTube. It will be a while before all the tracks from the show have been added but I hope you enjoy! And secondly, we have a brand new shirt available on the KVGM store, thanks to a listener recommendation. Check that out here!

Hammock’s back from Peru, a changed Hammock. A better Hammock, renewed, reborn, reinvigorated…and now trying to re-integrate back into the real world while keeping the Last Wave afloat. It’s possible…but that means less of an internet presence and more of a real life presence. But the jams will continue for now, and this week’s episode is jam packed, with plenty to satisfy all the papacitos and mamacitas in the house.

While Hammock is still in an airplane somewhere over the Pacific, he’s brought in yet another special guest host to cover in his absence — this time, it’s Norm aka Normally Retro! You can check out Norm’s incredibly hilarious video series, A Question of Character, but Norm is also a purveyor of smooth video game jams and he brought the heat on this week’s episode. Enjoy!

Hammock is out on vacation…or I wouldn’t even call it a vacation but a spiritual journey deep in the heart of the Amazonian jungle…but while he’s out, he’s enlisted the help of the dopest VGM DJ on the planet, dedeco, to step into the KVGM studio and lay it down for the boys and girls at home with a very special episode. Go check out dedeco’s sets on his YouTube channel , which features a set curated by yours truly. But for now, enjoy the beats and we’ll see you in a month!

I’m about to embark on a vacation/life experience three years in the making, disconnecting completely from anything internet-related. But before I go, I’m flying in a very special guest to host the next episode…somebody who many of you are probably familiar with by now. There is a possibility I return and end the show completely but I guess we’ll see what the jungle has in store for ya boy Hammock. In the meantime, plenty of jams this week to satisfy your every need to jam out…

Lots of unknowns this week, which happens when you’re dealing with budget PS2 titles but regardless, plenty of jams for all the jammers in the house, including a ZUNTATA mood, a Manami Matsumae beachside bopper, something feel good from a very adult JRPG, a le bop from Le Bop, and of course, something dirty and jammy from the Personal Computer-98. And if you’re a member of the Patreon, I have been slowly assembling mixtapes of all the After Dark episodes for your talk-free enjoyment.
